Sólheimajökull Glacier, Iceland

The Sólheimajökull Glacier in Iceland is one of several glaciers that is actively retreating. Along with the Mendenhall and Columbia Glaciers in Alaska, the Sólheimajökull Glacier is just one of the dozens of glaciers that are retreating as a result of climate change.

And while amazing teams of scientists, photographers, and others have created impactful timelapse videos of these melting glaciers (and it took more than a decade to put together) you can see these changes without any special tools- just your own eyes.

Sadly, it’s the same story but just a different glacier. It’s easy to imagine glaciers as huge, unmoving, and unreactive but that couldn’t be farther from the truth.

Instead, the massive and ancient glaciers are always reacting to the world and the choices that mankind has made.
